Stories with Anastasia Higginson

This month we met talked to the wonderful Anastasia Higginson, a certified Makeup Artist. She talks to us about travelling, makeup transformation and creating a natural home interiors space.

How do you start your day?

My day starts not with coffee and breakfast, but with the cat’s cute little nose, waiting for his 'good morning'. Here, where we live in France, there are many communal cats - they just walk in your house and call it Home.

We’d love to know about your career path so far! Tell us how you got where you are now?

As long as I remember myself I loved playing with makeup - pulling grandma’s lipstick out of the cupboard and painting a clown smile. Later, I started watching videos on YouTube about makeup and skincare, as beautiful makeup look starts with caring about your canvas - your skin.

What do you like about your job?

It is a miracle of transformation - both external and internal. When your skin is glowing, and you love what you see in the mirror, you want to share this happiness with the world around you. And this is where magic happens. But sometimes, all the person needs is a touch of blush and a compliment.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

To hear the person, to get on the same page - some people might have seen a certain style on their friend, or in a fashion magazine, and they truly believe they want it. But in most cases they forget that they have their own unique features, and also that pictures in magazines are heavily edited.

What are your favourite things to do when you have time off?

I have recently started piano lessons and you won’t believe how relaxing and calming it is. I put my notes in front of me, lit the candle, and forget about all troubles - it is just me and music. Also, I have been into yoga for quite a long time and it is a great way to reset your body and mind.

How would you describe your home interior?

As a couple, who loves travelling, we made sure that our house reflects it. Inspired by different countries and cultures, our home is truly an eclectic blend of Mediterranean coastal home, French Provence with wood and stone elements, little bit of nautical and oriental style. Our house has a unique star shape (product of a young architect) and so it is ever changing, depending on the angle you look at it.

What we are trying to do here is to create a space, inspired by nature and respecting it. We are currently working on a natural pool - so no chemicals, with aquatic plants filtering the water. It will not only will be the place to chill on a hot summer day, but also a place for some wildlife to thrive.

How do you relax?

There is nothing better than a bath with sea salt to unwind after a hectic day.I put some clarifying mask on, turn on favourite music and dream away.

Have you got a favourite place to travel?

I have been to a few countries, but my forever favourite is Denmark - country of fairytales and the tastiest herring. We spent a few days on a little danish island Æro, which looked like an illustration of Hans Christian Andersen book.

What does success mean to you?

It means to feel accomplished, to live the life, filled up with purpose (and only you decide what this purpose will be). For me success goes hand in hand with sense of belonging - to the place, to the people you are with.

What is your favourite film/ book?

One of my favourite books is One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It is about everything - life, death, love, seeing the world and discovering the world in your heart.

Do you support any causes/ charities?

For as long as I remember I have been trying to help animals in need and I am still doing it - donating to several shelters, looking after those, whom I can reach. I am so happy, that there many caring people out there.

Anastasia love the Vetiver and Cinnamon Candle:

'This candle smells so real, so natural. It fills up my house with warmth and cosiness. I am also so happy it doesn’t release any toxic substances in the air. Minimalistic, yet elegant design, lies perfectly in harmony with the lines of our home.'
