Stories with Jessica Sheldrick

This month we are meeting the lovely Jessica, she is a talented Interior Designer and also has a Print Business. We talk to her about career, happiness and travelling.

How do you start your day?

I’m an early bird! I usually get up around 6.30am and begin my day with a coffee, a workout and a yummy breakfast. The mornings are definitely the most important part of my day as I am the most productive at this time.

We’d love to know about your career path so far! Tell us how you got where you are now?

I studied Interior Design at Sheffield Hallam University which I absolutely loved. From there I landed my first role in an Interior Design consultancy in London that specialised in retail and commercial design. I worked there for a number of years before unfortunately being made redundant in September 2020. I then decided to start my own little Interior Design business that specialises in residential design.

What was your first job?

My first job was actually a newspaper round. I started this at a young age and posted the local newspapers in the village I grew up in. I then started working in a pub as a waitress. I have always worked since I was young - I definitely think this is important as I gained a lot of social and customer service skills.

What is are your favourite things to do when you have time off?

I actually have a second business; Printrose Designs, where I create prints, cards and decorations. I began this is 2017 and haven’t looked back. I have always been artistic and always done art as a hobby but it's so nice that I have created a business out of it now.

What motivates you?

Definitely setting myself deadlines and targets. I always write down my week in my planner and try my best to stick it to. I think organisations plays a big part in being motivated.

How would you describe your home interior?

When we first moved in to our home (back in 2017) we went for an industrial style with neutral colours. I love mixing old with new, so we’ve up-cycled some old furniture but also bought some new bits too. I love my home to feel bright and spacious but also having some cosy elements too.

What makes you the happiest?

My little French Bulldog - Frankie. She’s honestly a delight and we have so many adventures together. The other thing that makes me happy is travelling - I absolutely love exploring the world. Back in 2015, I travelled to South America and that was generally the best few months of my life.

Have a got a favourite song at the moment?

Yes - well an album actually. Alicia Keys ‘ALICIA’. This came out recently and I am loving it. My favourite songs on the album are: ‘3 Hour Drive’ and ‘Show Me Love’.

What is your greatest fear?

Sharks. We had the most amazing trip to Australia 2 years ago (which was so amazing) but I have always had a fear of sharks. We went on the most incredible snorkelling trip to the Whitsunday Islands but I must admit I was freaking out. I did manage to get in the water and had the most incredible experience - and we didn’t see any sharks PHEW!

What is are your favourite things to do when you have time off?

Definitely spending time with my family and friends. I’m still really close with the girls I made friends with at Uni and we have a really tight-knit group of us, so its lovely meeting up with them. I also am still really good friends with the girls from school too. So lots of trips to the pubs, restaurants and just hanging out.

Jessica loves the Black Pepper and Lime candles:

'I absolutely love my Arokiyam candle and the story behind the brand just makes it that extra bit special. The candle I chose was the Black Pepper and Lime which has a relaxing scent and is definitely full of all the right stuff. The soy wax and recycled glass container is a bonus - this makes the candle even more appealing.'
