Stories with Nickesha Wills
This month we are meeting the beautiful Nickesha Wills. She has a background in Luxury Fashion working with brands like Harrods, Burberry, Hardy Aimes, and Preen By Thornton Bregazzi and lives in London. We talk to her to find out about her career, supportive husband, and gardening.
How do you start your day?
Pre COVID-19, I would head to the gym first thing a few times a week, and once ready for work I would pop out to the garden to check if anything needs watering. I’m a keen gardener, growing mainly fruit, veg, and herbs. I’m aiming to get to the point where we won’t have to buy any vegetables. During the pandemic, I took up running doing 5k to 10k a day.
We’d love to know about your career path so far!
It took a lot of hard work, my career spans over 10 years in luxury fashion. I started out as a Buyer’s Assistant at Harrods and have worked at Aquascutum, Burberry, Hardy Amies, Kilgour, and then Preen as Head of Operations for over 3 and a half years.
Has anyone ever given you some amazing advice?
About 7 years at Burberry, I heard Angela Ahrendts speak and she mentioned something that I still live by, “when you’re at work, you’re at work, when you’re at home, you’re at home”.
Where do you go for advice?
My husband, he is a natural problem solver, he is my rock.
What motivates you?
Success, failing at something makes me miserable so I’m always trying to stay one step ahead.
What is are your favourite things to do when you have time off?
Gardening with my husband, there is nothing better than putting some music on and pottering in the garden and being brought a glass of wine or vodka tonic in the afternoon. It’s so satisfying planting seeds and watching things grow. A few years ago we started making our own compost as well to help reduce our waste.
How would you describe your home interior?
Have you got a favourite song at the moment?
Not a specific song but a record label called Anjunadeep. My husband discovered them a few years ago and introduced me to a few tracks and we still can’t get enough as there are so many amazing DJs playing what we call, our happy music.
Have you got a favourite place to travel?
We generally go away for sunny breaks but for a city break, it has to be Amsterdam. Walking around the canals is so relaxing and we always go back to our favourite café for apple pie and whipped cream.
Do you support any causes/ charities?
Both my husband and I give any wearable unwanted clothes to my dad who then gives them to friends and family in Jamaica which is where I was born.
