Looking after our Environment makes sense. Our planet is at the heart of all that we do, afterall, our vegan candles are 100% natural.
We are inspired by nature, but we do not want to overlook the impact that the manufacturing of candles can have on the environment. Instead we choose to be responsible, by supporting the world around us and ensuring what we do has minimal impact, here’s how.
When we created our processes, we looked at the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations. This outlines many of our steps that we work towards as closely as possible. They define sustainability as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." It will be an ongoing commitment and we are always striving to be more responsible. Currently we focus on Goal 15: Life on Land, and Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.
Life on Land
To support Goal 15, we donate 1% of our profits to global reforestation causes. We also ensure that all of our packaging is recyclable, and use minimal shipping packaging. We choose to use digital dispatch notes and order confirmations to cut down on waste, by emailing you your documents instead of including them in your order. Finally, our candles are poured into recycled glass that can be recycled once more.
Why it matters:
-1 million plants and animal species are at risk of extinction.
-Almost 75% of the world’s poor are affected by land degradation.
-Forests are home to more than 80% of all terrestrial species of animals, plants, and insects.
Responsible Consumption & Production
To support Goal 12, we encourage you to buy less. Our candles have an approx. 50 hour burn time, made from soy and coconut wax. Using soy means that the candle can burn longer than paraffin because the wick is not burning as hot.
In addition, we don’t use any plastic in our packaging to reduce plastic waste. The labels on the Candles are biodegradable made from 95% sugar cane fibres and 5% of hemp and linen. We also work with a responsible factory - our London manufacturer is Sedex Certified and ISO9001 registered.
Why it matters:
-If the global population reaches 9.6 billion by 2050, approximately three planets will be needed to sustain existing lifestyles.
-Around 1/3 of the food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted.
